ALFRED EDWARD ‘LAFFY’ KNOTTS

In loving memory of Alfred Edward “Laffy” Knotts, 73, of Fort Frances, Ont., who passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances.
Laffy was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Dora Knotts; his first wife, Thelma Knotts; brother, John, sisters, Ellen, Doris, and Vera; brothers-in-law, Ike Eisenzoph and Frank Weberg; and nephew, Lee Eisenzoph.
He is survived by his wife, Willa; sister, Olive Weberg of Superior, Wis.; brother, Cecil (Maria) of Winnipeg, Man.; mother-in-law, Louise Langtry of Fort Frances, Ont.; brother-in-law, Jack (Florence) Langtry of Fort Frances, Ont., and their son, Derek, of London, Ont.; sister-in-law, Jean Eisenzoph of Fort Frances, Ont.; stepchildren, Janis (Derek) McFee of Atikokan, Ont., Julia (Darcy) Neufield of Fort Frances, Ont., Jennifer (Kelly) Hackman of Port Burwell, Ont., and Rob (Mary Ellen) McDermid of Dorchester, Ont.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Laffy was born April 12, 1928 in Mine Centre, Ont., but he moved, with his family, as a young child to Fort Frances. Laffy spent many years working with the Public Utilities, starting as a lineman and retiring as a supervisor.
He was married to Thelma Viola Langtry on May 14, 1949 and she passed away on March 3, 1979. On Dec. 6, 1996, he married his longtime friend, Willa McDermid.
Laffy was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 and served in various offices over the years, including the Royal Canadian Legion Colour Party and president; he was recently presented with his 40–year member pin.
He was a community-minded person who was actively involved in the Knox United Church, Meals on Wheels, and took the Boy Scouts out on their weekend outings. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and curling.
Until recently, Laffy was very active and well-known as an avid walker.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 11, 2001 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church. Rev. Patrick Playfair will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, with a tribute by the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Colour Party.
Pallbearers will be Darcy Neufield, Derek Langtry, Rob McDermid, Jack Langtry, Derek McFee, and Lowell Weberg.
Honourary pallbearers will be Lorne Whalen, Steve Gagne, Dale Lind, and Bob Armit.
