With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Opa on January 1, 2022 at the age of 98. He had an amazing life.
Alex was born in Sajan/Kikinda, Yugoslavien on February 16, 1923.
He left us with so many fond memories and stories as a young boy, young man, entering the war, marrying Oma (the love of his life), starting a family, moving to Canada and becoming a Canadian citizen, farming, then starting to work for George Armstrong for over 45 years.
Opa had lots of hobbies, stamp collecting, gardening, and raising orchids.
Opa was the kindest most loving man. He never judged anyone throughout his life. He had so much respect for everyone that crossed his path.
Opa is survived by his son George (Pat), grandchildren Stephan (Stacey), great-grandson Owen, granddaughters Tammy (Colin) Colliou, and Sherry (Kevin) Randall and great-grandchildren JJ, Nick and Tyler, and his daughter Anita (Larry) Mattson and grandchildren Kristopher, Justin and Katie Mattson. We were the love of his life and so loved.
We are so grateful that Opa had the most wonderful care at Rainycrest. Thank you to Dr. Moorhouse for all the years of care. Thank you to the East Wing staff from the PSW to RN, kitchen staff, housekeeping, activation, and his girls in Physio. Thank you to all the residents for being our friend.
We will treasure his memory. Keep him on our hearts forever and always remember that twinkle in his eyes when we walked through the door for a visit.
