Alcid Joseph “Sid” Asselin passed away peacefully at Riverside Health Care Facilities (La Verendrye Hospital) in Fort Frances, Ont. on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002 after a courageous battle with stroke and cancer.
Sid was born May 21, 1928 in Sleeman, Ont.
He was predeceased by his parents, Albertine and David Asselin; brother, Don; and sisters, Lola and Rose.
He leaves to grieve his wife of 45 years, Sherrie; daughter, Tracy (Dale Newman) of Brampton, Ont.; and twin sons, Richard (Michele) of Winnipeg, Man. and Edward “Ted” (Nancy) of Fort Frances, Ont.
Sid also leaves four grandsons, Dustin and Danny, Jeremy and Brody; two granddaughters, Janelle and Chantal; and his mother-in-law, Gwen Hubbell of Winnipeg, Man.
Other surviving family members are his four brothers, Roland of Sleeman, Ont., Edward of Atikokan, Ont., Leo of Saskatoon, Sask., and Rene of Thunder Bay, Ont., and one sister, Irene Lougheed of Thunder Bay, Ont., and their families.
Sid lived in Fort Frances and the surrounding area all his life. He owned and operated Asselin Transportation & Storage Ltd. for 30 years, served on Fort Frances town committees, was a founding member of the Borderland Racing Association, and an active member of Ducks Unlimited and the Whiskey Jack Carvers Club.
He was very proud of being a life member of the Fort Frances Kins-men Club.
Sid loved people and nature, and always put his family first. Now he is gone but will always be remembered.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Rev. Marietta Marshall officiating.
Honourary pallbearers will be all those who visited and supported Sid and Sherrie through his illness.
