ALBERT SMITH (BOGANE-YAASH)

Albert Smith, 58, of Northwest Bay First Nation, Ont., passed away suddenly at Northwest Bay First Nation on Friday, Oct. 10, 2003.
He was born Feb. 24, 1945 in Northwest Bay First Nation to the late George and Julia Smith.
For many years, Albert worked in the logging industry, and as a guide at various tourist camps in the area. He also drove bus and taxi, and worked as a firefighter.
He enjoyed working in his yard and being around people. His other enjoyments including playing Bingo with family and friends. Albert was an outdoor person, and was very well known as a traditional healer and dancer.
He was predeceased by his brother, Jim Smith in 1996; sister, Dolly Councillor in 1985; and niece, Geraldine Courchene in 2001.
Albert is survived by his wife, Jessie Smith of Northwest Bay, Ont.; foster brothers, Jerry Mosher of Emo, Ont. and Steve Mosher of Couchiching First Nation, Ont.; two sons, Glenn Smith (Joyce) and Dalrey Smith (Susan), all of Northwest Bay, Ont.; and daughter, Evelyn Smith (Ben Kingbird) of Bemidji, Mn.
He also is survived his nieces, Darryl and Vicky Councillor of Brush, Colo., Phyllis and Donald Ulrich of Northwest Bay, Ont., Janet Snowball of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Amanda Snowball of Stajikoming, Ont.; and nephews, Adrian Snowball, Gary Councillor (Lisa), and Cory Snowball, all of Northwest Bay, Ont.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Darcelle, Teresa, Shae-Lynn, Sheldon, Tyrone, Justina, Tashina, Sherry, Josh, Coty, and Sage; great-grandchildren, Emery, Kyle, and Isiah; and great-nephews and nieces, George Councillor, Travis and Tyler Smith, and Lynnette, Nathaniel, and Riel Councillor, all of Northwest Bay, Ont.
Stepsons Barrett Bunting of Northwest Bay, Ont., and Ramona Bunting of Whitedog, Ont.; step-granddaughters, Alyssa Bunting of Northwest Bay, Ont., Marcella and Julianna Bunting, and Skylar Paishk, all of Whitedog, Ont.; brothers-in-law, Patrick and Wanda Paishk, and Colleen Paishk, all of Whitedog, Ont., also survive.
A traditional burial ritual will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Northwest Bay First Nation Community Gymnasium. An elder from Northwest Bay First Nation will officiate, with interment in the Northwest Bay First Nation burial grounds.
A wake will be held Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 from 6 p.m. at the Northwest Bay First Nation Community Gymnasium.
Pallbearers will be Gary Councillor, Gary Smith, Doanld Ulrich, Norman Cyr, Terry Smith, and George Councillor.
Honourary pallbearers will be Norman Cyr, Patrick Paishk, Buddy Cyr, and Larry Councillor.
