Albert Edward Hunter

Albert Hunter, 86, of Manitou Rapids, Ont., passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Albert was born Sept. 17, 1913 in Manitou Rapids to the late Peter and Mary Hunter. On May 27, 1956, Albert was united in marriage to the former Bella Bluebird.
He worked as a logger for most of his life throughout Northwestern Ontario and Northern Minnesota until his retirement in 1979. He was a loving father and grandfather, who enjoyed family gatherings attended by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Albert loved the outdoors, pow-wows, hunting, watching sports on TV, and providing for his family. He was a highly-respected Elder and community member.
He was predeceased by one son, Abe; one daughter, Lucy; two brothers, Art and Paul; and two sisters, Annie and Alice.
Albert is survived by his wife, Bella Hunter of Manitou Rapids; five sons, Bob Hunter and wife, Susie of Bemidji, Mn., Albert Hunter Jr. and wife, Sandra, Joe Hunter and wife, Sharlene and Art Hunter and wife, Melonee, all of Manitou Rapids, Ont., and Ivan Hunter of New York; six daughters, Gloria and husband Ted Geyer, of Waterville, Mn., Lorraine Cochrane and David Debungee of Manitou Rapids, Ont., Doreen Hunter and Raymond Cyr of Northwest Bay, Ont., Irene and husband, Peter White, of Reed Narrows, Ont., Sarah Hunter, and Eleanor Hunter and Chris Henderson, all of Manitou Rapids, Ont.; 35 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.
A traditional service was held Sunday, June 11, 2000 at 10 a.m. at Manitou Rapids Gymnasium. Elder Peter White officiated, with interment in Manitou Rapids Cemetery.
A wake was held Saturday at the Manitou Rapids Gymnasium.
Pallbearers were Greg Bombay, Murray Bombay, Tony Bombay, Delbert Horton, Gary Medicine, and Jim Leonard.
Honourary pallbearers were Tom Medicine Sr., Ben Brown Sr., George Horton, Charlie Nash, Ted Geyer, and Peter Debungee Sr.
