It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Agnes Hyatt, of Emo, Ont., on March 20, 2007 at the Atikokan General Hospital in Atikokan, Ont. at the age of 90.
Agnes was born Oct. 9, 1916 in Rainy River, Ont. to the Late John and Adeline LeBlanc. In her younger years, Agnes worked at various tourist camps in the Nestor Falls area and also a few years in Milwaukee, Wis., Hibbing, Mn., and Little Falls, Mn.
Later after moving to Atikokan, she worked at Ideal’s Confectionary.
Upon her return to the homestead in Dearlock in 1942, she met and married Norman Blair. They farmed at Dearlock until 1957, at which time they moved to Atikokan.
In 1978, she met and married John (Jack) Hyatt, making their home on the River Road (southeast of Emo). Shortly after Jack’s retirement, they moved to a home on Front Street in Emo.
Agnes is survived by her children, Don (Lorena) Blair and Tom (Polly) Blair of Atikokan, Ont., and Keith (Shirley) Blair of Manitouwadge, Ont.; and daughter–in-law, Colleen Blair of Stoney Creek, Ont.
She also will be sadly missed by 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Yvonne Belton of Mill Valley, Calif.
She also is survived by in-laws, Ilamae Quinn and Ruth (Bob) Tutkaluk, all of Atikokan, Ont., Angus (Ferne) Hyatt and Sylvia Beadle, all of Fort Frances, Ont., George Hyatt of Devlin, Ont., Fred (Evelyn) Hyatt of Thunder Bay, Ont., Vivian (Gordon) Cole and Shirley Mills, all of Dryden, Ont., Grace (Keith) Neilson of Stratton, Ont., Don Walton of London, Ont., and many nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are her step-sons and daughters, Dennis (Jan) Hyatt and Mervin (Gayle) Hyatt, all of Emo, Ont., Dave (Linda) Hyatt of Fort Frances, Ont., Beverly (Elliott) Cooper, of Owen Sound, Ont., and Gail (Joe) Roussin of Thunder Bay, Ont.; 10 step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
Agnes was predeceased by her husbands, Norman Blair in 1973 and John (Jack) Hyatt in 1995; sons, Jim Blair in 1995 and Rick Blair in 2002; and step-daughter-in-law, Lee Hyatt in 1997.
She also was predeceased by siblings, Clarence LeBlanc, Clement LeBlanc (Iona), Marcella Fournier (Everett), Lorraine Tompkins (Charles), Sylvia Gray (James), Adriana LeBlanc, Leona Hannivan (George), and Leo LeBlanc (Polly); and in-laws, Alan Quinn, Alex Blair (Margaret), Gladys Nordick, Joe Hyatt (Elaine), Jack Mills, Beverly May Hyatt, Louis Beadle, Walter Booth (Eunice), Harvey Strachan (Aileen), and Joyce Walton.
A memorial service to celebrate Agnes’ life will be held Saturday March 31, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, with Rev. Eileen Bragg officiating.
Interment will take place in Pine Ridge Cemetery in North Branch, Ont. at a later date.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Gary Blair, Greig Blair, Tim Blair, and Tyler Blair. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Agnes’ grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, nieces, and nephews.
