Adrian Edmond LaFreniere, 76, of 960 First St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, July 6, 2009 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
He was born Nov. 8, 1932 in Fort Frances to the late Edmond Paul LaFreniere and Laura Cecilia Allan.
He was united in marriage on Feb. 11, 1956 to Ore Marlene Dandeneau in Fort Frances.
Adrian was employed with Ontario Hydro, and spent time in various locations throughout the province of Ontario. He retired from Ontario Hydro on Feb. 1, 1988 as district manager (Fort Frances).
In his spare time, he also enjoyed his mineral exploration activities as a principal of several companies.
Adrian was very fond of his grandchildren, and had a great deal of pleasure spending time with them. He and Marlene also spent many pleasurable years rotating between his winter home in Mesa, Ariz. and his summer home located on Reef Point (Rainy Lake).
He also served on various boards over the years, and was a piper with the Fort Frances Pipe Band. He also was a member of various martial arts clubs in Fort Frances, International Falls, Mn. and Mesa.
Adrian was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances, was past president of the Rotary Club of Fort Frances, and was a member of the Granite Lodge #446 A.F.&A.M. in Fort Frances, the Scottish Rite of Thunder Bay, Khartum Temple of Winnipeg, Man., and El Zareba Temple of Phoenix, Ariz., along with several Shrine Clubs in Ontario, Minnesota, and Arizona.
He was predeceased by one brother, William, and his wife, Marguerite, of Fargo, N.D.
Adrian is survived by his wife, Marlene, of Fort Frances, Ont.; two sons, Paul and wife, Emily, and grandchildren, Ashley and Justin, all of Fort Frances, Ont., and Dale and wife, Marie, and grandson, Nicholas, all of Kingston, Ont.; two brothers, Robert and wife, Joyce, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Raymond and wife, Audrey, of Dryden, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation will take place in International Falls, Mn.
A memorial service to celebrate Adrian’s life will be held Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Wayne McIntosh and Rev. William Giovetti officiating.
Interment will take place in the La Verendrye Columbarium in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The honourary pallbearers will be Gary Angus, Gerry Martin, Mihlan Cawston, Bill Dobransky, Ormond Cooper, and Bob Phillips.
