Nellie Adelle Tyne Johnson, 91, of International Falls, Mn., passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at the Falls Good Samaritan Care Center. She was born Jan. 4, 1911 at Rainy River, Ont. to the late James. J. and Mary L. Tyne.
Adelle first attended school in Strome, Alta., where her family lived for a time, and then attended school in Rainy River. She later graduated from the Villa St. Scholastica in Duluth, Mn. in 1928.
After graduating from the Villa, she joined her family in Fort Frances, Ont. and worked as a bookkeeper and later as office manager of the Tyne Motor Company that was owned and operated by her father.
On July 8, 1937, Adelle married Harry W. Johnson in Fort Frances. They first made their home in South Dakota, at Madison and Pierre, where Harry was employed at J.C. Penney Company.
In 1939, they returned to International Falls and lived there since.
In 1939, Harry founded Johnson’s Clothing. Adelle became his bookkeeper besides being employed by the Tyne Motor Co. in Fort Frances.
Adelle loved people and leaves behind many friends. She was always devoted to her family, friends, work, and church, having been a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in International Falls since 1939.
She is survived by her husband, Harry W. Johnson of International Falls; and nephew, James (Linda) MacDonald of Fort Frances, Ont.
Adelle was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Vivian MacDonald.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 from 6-8 p.m., with vigil prayers at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Holy Rosary at Green-Larsen Mortuary in International Falls.
Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in International Falls. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The family would prefer in memoriam donations to the St. Thomas Catholic School.
