ADELINE VALENTINE MARGUERITE ARMSTRONG
Adeline Armstrong, 98, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances.
She was born June 22, 1908 in Arbor Vita, Wis. to John and Clarisse Grinsell. She was united in marriage to Willard Chapman in 1929.
After his passing, she was united in marriage to Joseph Armstrong on Aug. 1, 1964.
As a young woman, she trained to be a nurse. After she returned to Fort Frances, she worked with Drs. MacKenzie and O’Donnell and then as a midwife for various families.
The Chapman family later owned and operated a tourist resort at Lac La Croix.
Upon returning to nursing, she was employed by both La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances and the Falls Memorial Hospital in International Falls as an operating room nurse.
Adeline raised seven children, as well as five grandchildren and numerous foster children.
Adeline was predeceased by her first husband, Willard, on June 5, 1963, and second husband, Joe, on Aug. 12, 1993; son, Ross Chapman and his wife, Lorraine; brothers, Steven, Walter, Arthur, John, and Edward; sister, Helen Martin; as well as two sons-in-law.
She will be greatly missed and remembered by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Coralie (Keith) Comba, Becky (Frank) Ball, Gary (Cynthia) Chapman, Adalyn (Brad) Connolly, David (Lynn) Chapman, and Gloria (Jim) Sawka.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 15, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances. Parish prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, March 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances. Fr. Francis Pudicherry will officiate, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and honourary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.
