Wrong usage

Dear sir:
I read with interest the editorial in last week’s Times, and found it to be informative and well researched. But one small item troubled me.
It would be great if the phrase “to beg the question” was put to proper use, but as nearly as I can determine, it was not.
My dictionary gives the meaning of it as “to conduct an argument using circular logic,” which didn’t seem to fit the meaning that you had given it. If you have a dictionary that’s at least two inches thick, you probably will find it in there—and it would surprise me and several others if the meaning given to it had anything to do with the asking of a question.
Look it up in your Funk and Wagnalls, please!
