Urgent matter

Dear editor:
We are viewing with alarm the fact that nothing is planned or funded to deal with the problems of sewage flooding our basements and parts of our homes every spring that an event occurs; that no control is used by our town.
We continue to clean up the mess and either fund large insurance deductibles or pay the total costs of sewer back-ups when spills occur.
Street surface water drains are ever more going without repairs, and street ponds continue to form and drain into our home drainage systems.
We are advised to use our own pumps, which we do. Unfortunately, some of this drainage is overflow and back-up from the sanitary sewer system.
Where do we pump it? Where else but out on our property—lawns and driveways. To say the least, it’s not very sanitary or clean.
One wonders what the people that are concerned with the goose and dog messes that are giving them problems elsewhere in town think?
To be sure, this is not going to go away but perhaps our town fathers should consider some more than the present facts. We wonder what they will do when the adjacent First Nations develop the five-star resort and casino that is in the works?
We should suggest that you look at how Emo is thinking. Yes, a big sewage lagoon, etc.
Why can’t that lagoon sitting unused at the northwest end of our town be considered. Could not a shallow pipe system, with pumps located at trouble spots (sanitary sewer manholes) be developed to take care of emergencies?
It would be much appreciated by us taxpayers if the high-paid brains of our town system spent some time dealing with this instead of blowing more time and money on regenerating a burnt-out, used up antique that any intelligent business would invest in.
