I witnessed one of the most horrific crimes against our very own children this past Saturday afternoon.
I was driving out to Lowey’s to purchase some flowers when I saw two very young, impressionable girls standing along the side of King’s Highway holding up car wash signs while dressed in shorts and bikini tops.
The very sight of this upset me enough that I turned my car around and went back to the Boston Pizza parking lot and asked to speak to one of these girls.
I had expressed my concern for her and the other young lady that were exposing themselves, and that it was not appropriate and that it didn’t look very nice for them.
At first, this young lady started to get offended. But as she listened, I explained to her that she actually was unknowingly putting herself in harm’s way by presenting herself in such a manner—and only creating a bad position for her while she was being ogled by male passers-by.
I told her that she was very beautiful and that she never needs to show her body to get what she wanted in life. I explained to her that this very act was, indeed, bringing shame to herself and asked for her to put a shirt on.
I then went to Lowey’s and made mention of this very thing, and asked a woman that I knew to stop there on her way back and express the same concern.
The people I spoke to at Lowey’s felt the same way as I did.
When I returned to town, I was pleased to not see the girls standing out there.
To whoever let these young women present themselves in this manner, shame on you. You put the community’s daughters in a very bad position.
Those girls did not have to stand on the side of the road dressed in such a manner as to potentially cause an incident.
The people of Northwestern Ontario are the most generous persons I have ever met. Fundraising always reaches amazing amounts of money, as has been witnessed over and over again.
There was no need to exploit these young girls to raise funds because the citizens of Fort Frances always pull through.
