Dear sir:
I have found it reassuring to hear that the hemo-dialysis unit in Fort Frances is on track for operation come the fall. It is my understanding that the room is coming along quite nicely, and that there are nurses hired and in the process of starting to, or already training, on the new machines that are slated for use.
I can imagine that this is quite a relief for many people in the district–not just the ones who are already relying on this life support treatment but the people that may come to need it in the future.
As for the letter to the editor from Mr. Bekeris, he has a right to his opinion the same way I have. I only regret that he is not aware of the facts that surround the health care situation in this area or the overwhelming need for these machines.
I quite often wonder why so much money is spent on what I think may be frivolous toys or things that are not necessarily needed or wanted by everyone. I truly think that if Mr. Bekeris had a chance to sit down with anyone with kidney failure, and hear the fear and sometimes the defeat in their voice, he would be lobbying just as hard as we have for what we think is not a luxury but a necessity for the health and well-being of not only the patients but also their friends and family.
I sincerely hope Mr. Bekeris never finds himself in a situation such as this but if that time ever came to his home, I would like to think that I would act on his behalf the same as I will continue to do so for my friends.
Yours in humanity, Mr. Bekeris.
Signed,
Debbra Westover-Morriseau
