Union town?

Dear editor:
In regards to the letter to the editor signed by George Sturdy in the Jan. 8 edition of the West End Weekly condemning Wal-Mart coming to Fort Frances.
He states Fort Frances is a union town. It’s human nature to shop for better prices, union or otherwise. Competition is a good thing, whether you shop at Wal-Mart or not.
Perhaps George can remember when the employees of Stedman’s store were on strike and our Local #92 union, of which he was a member, supported the picketers by assessing each one of us a dollar or two off our paycheques.
And then for our M.E.C. Christmas party for the children, our union executives bought all the gifts at Stedman’s because of the lower price—while the strike was still on.
If we only shop at union outlets, we wouldn’t be spending much money in this union town.
Signed,
Bob Gadd
P.S. In response to the letter to the editor in the Fort Frances Times on Jan. 8 (“Dictator at helm”) signed by Joe Gray. Will the real Joe Gray please stand up?
