Too many fence-sitters

Dear editor:
Is Emo progressing at a pace that is acceptable to the townspeople of Emo? As Roy Romanow, premier of Saskatchewan, suggested this week on national television, after a number of years in the political area, it was time for new faces and new ideas.
Local entrepreneurs were successful in the past to encourage new business ventures, which is very necessary for economical development. Over the past few years, Echo Lake Estates Ltd. has tried repeatedly to make this happen. Once the subdevelopment has received the green light, the opportunity for economical development is there–for builders, plumbers, electricians, grocers, and so on–which will help the growth of our entire community, and increase the tax base, which is a benefit to one and all.
In November, 1999 residents of Emo recognized the above, with their signatures on a petition (111). We understand, after discussion with other municipalities, that the council of Emo is “not bound to do anything,” however, mention was made that a petition would not go unnoticed. Most of the petitioners would expect at least to have their concerns acknowledged.
This inaction would suggest an inability to act upon the wishes of the people.
In my opinion, this lack of action is telling future businesses not to waste their time or money in investing in Emo since it does appear that a “battle” must be fought at the council level before any new project can go ahead.
This is not a rosy future for the town of Emo and its residents who depend on the local economy for their livelihood, and that of their families.
I urge the citizens of Emo to elect in November those people with strong minds and a clear business sense. Fence-sitters do not need to reapply.
Signed,
Tim Judson
