Toll booth blues

I have been following the international bridge/customs modification saga with interest although the whole affair is surrounded by secrecy and lack of public participation.
If true, one of the most recent items appeared in the Daily Bulletin and concerned tolls. The toll facility on the U.S. side will collect the tolls. Frequent users can obtain a $20 U.S. swipe card good for ten two-way passages.
In other words, it’s $1 U.S. each way which for easy calculation is $1.50 Cdn. That is, $1.50 Cdn. versus 60 cents at present. That works out to a whopping %150 increase.
So much for good corporate citizenship. The local managers on both sides of the river, that is the co-owners of the bridge–Boise cascade and Abitibi–ought to hang their heads in shame.
But then the head offices in both Boise, Idaho and Montreal, Quebec rule the roost and local managers dance to the tune played elsewhere.
