Time for teamwork

Dear editor,

Since moving to town in 2015, I have tried to get more involved in the community. I have enjoyed working with people who have common goals such as the Canada Day Committee, Senior Centre, the Rainy River District Festival of the Arts, the Fort Frances Little Theatre and the Kiwanis Club. Being involved in these different groups has given me more opportunities to meet people who volunteer for this town and area. I have been approached during various meetings and events as to whether I would ever consider running for council in the next municipal election of 2022. The idea of helping people on a broader base in a more political platform intrigued me. However, the last couple of years I have been following social media and articles in the paper with much dismay. The radio, newspaper and their online reporting is quite proficient and gets the message out, but it seems if you don’t agree with a certain person on council then your opinion doesn’t count. I perfectly understand why one would be reluctant to get involved in municipal politics, particularly the Town Council, AT THIS TIME. I feel personal agendas do NOT have a place in our municipal affairs. All citizens working for the people of Fort Frances need to work as a TEAM to achieve what is good for the community. Let’s go forward and achieve the greatness that the Fort Frances residents deserve!

Respectfully,
Cynthia J Donald
