Think about it

Dear editor:
Re: Perpetuating a lie (Letters to the Editor, March 16).
The writer is trying to claim that Canada is “ruled” by the Queen. In our constitutional monarchy, the Queen represents the people of Canada. When politicians or new Canadians pledge allegiance to the Queen, they are, in effect, pledging allegiance to the people of Canada.
In a republic, for instance, allegiance is to a flag, such as in the United States, or to the president of the country, not to the country or the people of the country.
In a republic, the pecking order is: President, government, people. In our constitutional monarchy, the pecking order is: The Queen (i.e. the people) and government. Think about it.
I will take our constitutional monarchy any day.
