During this Christmas season, we start thinking about the gifts we want to give to our family and friends.
Often we wander store to store in search of the “perfect gift” for each person. Wouldn’t it be great if we could choose one gift that would fit everyone, like a “one-size-fits-all” sweater?
God had all of us in mind when he planned to send His perfect gift to earth – His Son Jesus. His gift of salvation is perfectly designed for every person. He even sent His gift at the perfect time, not too early and not too late. “But when the time was right, God sent his Son, and a woman gave birth to him.” (Galatians 4:4 CEV).
Part of the fun of gift givingh is wrapping our gift in an appealing way. God knew just how to wrap up our Saviour. He didn’t send him as an angelic being or as a blaze of fire, instead God put His gift of salvation into a human mother, just like every human being on earth. God’s gift came in human form which is someone we can relate to. Jesus lived 33 years on the earth to demonstrate the love of God to us, paying the ultimate price of death on the cross for our salvation. “He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at the right time.” (1 Timothy 2:6 NLT).
Unfortunately, most of the gifts we give at Christmas eventually get broken, used up and discarded after some time. This is not the case with God’s gift. Jesus is the gift that keeps giving! He provides limitless eternal salvation for anyone who will receive. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:12) Even after centuries have passed, God’s gift has not been diminished in any way, in fact the more it’s shared, the more it brings joy and peace to the world! This is the message the angels gave the shepherds on the night of our Saviour’s birth: “Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.’” (Luke 2:10 NKJV)
May this Christmas season be a time for you to share this joyful message.
