Dear editor,
Christmas – the time of year where all across the world, Christians celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Christ of our Father God. A time when we gather together with our families and friends to enjoy a meal, fellowship and opening of gifts. The wonder of Christmas is something that we should look forward to with gratitude in our hearts for the birth of our saviour. Unfortunately, the Christmas season, over time, has become so commercialized and secularized that we can lose sight of the true reason for the season and miss out on its value and meaning.
The gospel of Luke Ch.2, v11: “for unto us is born this day in the city of David a saviour which is Christ the Lord.” Let us not give up the gathering of family and friends and the exchange of gifts, but keep in the forefront of our thoughts and minds the real reason for the celebration. As our saviour, Jesus offered the gifts of eternal life that includes forgiveness of sins, wholeness of life and peace in our hearts. Romans Ch.10, v10-11.
As we open our gifts, given in love, think of the best gift of all, given in love from our heavenly Father. John Ch.3 v16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Whatever our history, whatever our circumstances, Immanuel is here – God with us – in every situation, in every circumstance, in every yesterday, today and tomorrow. May you sense God with you in your waiting, in your seeking, in your trusting and in your faithfulness as we seek Him during this Christmas season.
Way maker – miracle worker – promise keeper – light in the darkness. That is who He is.
