Support local

Dear editor,
Congratulations to the Rainy River Future Development Corporation for bringing the “Go Local Rewards” concept to Fort Frances.
The Rainy River District Federation of Agriculture would like to see this concept extended where Rainy River District businesses provide products to their customers that are truly local.
As reported earlier, the local abattoir needs to increase the volume it processes to remain viable and restaurants and food retailers can add to this by promoting local products on menus and meat counters.
Consumers can be assured that the product is truly local and processed by people whose livelihood depends on quality products, not some large international corporation that’s primary focus is products based on high profit margins.
Consumers can support this local initiative by asking local businesses if the products being served are truly local.
I also would like to remind consumers that the Clover Valley Farmers’ Market is opening soon and it is an excellent opportunity to talk to producers about the products they offer. This gives them the feedback they need to try and provide the products you desire.
In closing, I would ask all producers to support the abattoir for all their beef, pork and lamb processing requirements. It’s management and staff are truly dedicated to providing a high quality product.
