Dear editor:
The hypothetical question, asked by the Fort Frances Times during last week’s mayoral debate, seemed to be a strange one for an election topic.
Was there some specific reason for asking it? Is there a suspicion that either the mayor or somebody else on council may be guilty of using the town credit card for personal use or is perhaps double dipping for expenses?
If an abuse has taken place, why hasn’t the guilty person been dealt with, as the mayor suggests should happen.
The answer given in the paper seems to dodge the question.
For the mayor to suggest that intent might justify an abuse is a poor defence. To also suggest that town policy might condone an abuse doesn’t seem right.
Council should not need a policy to keep them honest.
Yours truly,
Norm Guenette
