So appreciative

Dear editor:
Over the past two months, I (Shaun) have had the opportunity to work with Mr. John Pierce on a project to highlight my dad, Dave “Zeke” Egan, and his life’s hockey accomplishments.
We, as a family, cannot thank Mr. Pierce enough for the countless e-mails, edits, office visits, etc. that he went through to make sure that our dad’s hockey life was represented so perfect.
It was not an easy task to complete on our behalf as dad catches onto these things really quick, especially when we had to call in the troops (i.e., our mom) to start scrounging up pictures of dad’s past and present hockey endeavours throughout their home (kudos to mom for that).
It was a fun time, though, seeing how our dad evolved as a star hockey player to a well-respected hockey coach throughout Canada and the U.S. (throughout this same timeframe, you could see the brown hair transform into grey).
Having dad featured in the Fort Frances Times’ Minor Hockey souvenir edition was a huge surprise to dad. He was very honoured and caught off-guard, to say the least, but the icing on the cake (no pun intended, but literally the day of dad’s birthday) was the detailed write-up for him.
Unexpected would describe it best. You could see the emotion in dad’s eyes as he read the write-up and the memories began to flow.
But you also could see the wheels turning in his head: “How did they get all this passed me without anyone telling me or me finding out somehow?”
Finally we got him—it only took 60 years!
Mr. Pierce and the Fort Frances Times staff, on behalf of Shaun (Tessa), Dave Jr. (Nicole), Joe (Lindsay), Karen Egan (assistant coach), and Dad/Papa’s newest hockey team (Matthew, Casey, Cruz, and Poppy Egan), thank you.
This wonderful presentation of our dad/Papa has us all so appreciative of what you and your staff have done to highlight a very important person in our life.
Sincerely,
Shaun Egan
on behalf of the
Egan Hockey Club
P.S. Go, Habs, go!
