Should be livid

Dear editor:
Are any taxpayers livid over the town’s antics and concerns about funding denials?
I am because of several reasons and maybe you should be, as well.
The town made a plan for replacement of some of its infrastructure, such as sewer replacement that is 93 years old and water line replacement that is 100 years old. And, of course, the streets, storm sewers, etc. that sit on top of these items.
They bid out the job and awarded the contract to Makkinga Construction back in February.
Somehow, the fact eluded the town that no grants would be awarded to any municipality that had awarded a contract! How that misconception was overlooked is almost a laughing matter.
The other municipalities are all aware of this!
The plan is about replacing aged and non-repairable infrastructure. The cost of the old, almost unusable, infrastructure is not worth repairing so it has to be rebuilt from the bottom up.
We are unsure if the original cost was financed by frontage costs, etc. However, the cost originally was minor in comparison to present standards and in 100 years the property owners used up that value.
The rest of us taxpayers are livid in the method of funding and the procedures the town is going to utilize to pay for this project!
In this day and age when something is paid for, and wears out or becomes nonusable, we pay for the new item.
Maybe some of you other overworked taxpayers should let the mayor and councillors know how you feel about the advice, guidance, and foul-ups they are receiving from the high-priced staff in our employ.
One more thing. An offer already has been made on the gold boom scheme to buy their efforts out.
In case you aren’t aware of it, that traditionally is how the mega companies eliminate competition.
This is a proven fact of business.
