Shameful litter

Dear editor:
To the people living on Emo Road 2 north from Emo.
Two weeks ago, I completed my annual pickup of garbage thrown from some of your car windows. I picked up from the cemetery back as far as my place as I have always disliked seeing the roadsides littered with trash.
I would have started at the highway with my pickup but one is subject to a lot of staring when doing anything as radical as picking up stuff from the ditches, and my young driver was rather embarrassed by the whole thing.
How many of you are guilty of opening your window and tossing out the wrappings after enjoying a juicy burger or whatever from one of fast food places? I have picked up pretty well everything from wrappers off meatsticks, styrofoam cups, burger containers, milk shake containers (complete with lid and straw), lots of napkins, ketchup and mustard, junk mail, “What the heck, throw it out the window.”
Just two days ago, someone had enjoyed a burger and shake from the DQ. I picked your garbage up, too.
One has to wonder if those people who litter the roadsides also throw trash around their yards at home.
I would remind everyone that there is a substantial fine for anyone caught littering. However, if you just have to throw it out, try to keep it on this side of the ditch–I hate getting my feet wet.
I realize that it is probably only a few people who do this but perhaps they could think twice before they do it, and just take it on home. Remember, you live on this road, too.
Signed,
Kay Wilson
