I noticed the headline, “Proposed medical busing service disputed,” in last week’s edition of the Times.
This was one submission I had made during the town’s strategic planning process.
At the present time, there are so many people who have to go to either Thunder Bay or Winnipeg for advanced medical treatments. Basically, if you don’t have a relative or friend to drive you in, there is no other method of getting to these cities to make your appointment.
I wanted to get some direct answers from our government in power, but that was disappointing. After discussing the urgent need in Northwestern Ontario for this service, it was suggested by the contact person that the individual should take an airplane.
It seemed this individual wasn’t even interested in discussing the situation.
I mentioned the fact that not too many people have the money for air fare, and that closed my discussion.
One reads of the millions of dollars our government has given away to countries, with no assurance on how it will be spent. It also is spending billions on a useless war in Europe, not to mention all the lives being lost.
This is all paid for by taxpayers’ funds, which includes all of Northwestern Ontario.
I’m quite certain that there is some bus line that would service Thunder Bay and Winnipeg, even on a five-day basis, if some level of government subsidized some of their operating expense.
I hope our town council pursues this problem to attain some satisfactory conclusion.
