Dear sir:
I am writing this letter for a couple of reasons.
One, remember your family and keep in touch. So much is lost because families do not keep in contact. Stories, tales, and history are lost if there is no one to continue to pass this information on to others. Document history and pass it on.
So often families try to find their roots only after their most resourceful sources are in their graves. Keep old pictures, letters, and memorabilia, or donate it to a local museum, but please do not destroy it.
I, myself, am in the dilemma of trying to trace family members and thus the reason for this letter. We are having a reunion in August and would really like to try to have most of our relatives attend if possible, or at least be able to let them know that it is happening.
The date for this reunion is Aug. 13-15, 1999 in Emo, Ont. The descendants are from Thomas Allen, born in Ireland on March 22, 1832. He came to Canada around 1845, and was married on Oct. 15, 1857 by Wm. Belt in Scarborough, Ont. to Elizabeth “Betsy” Madill, who was born in Scarborough in 1837.
They had 12 children, William, Margaret Jane, Martha Ann, Sarah, David John, Mary Ellen, Thomas Jr., James, Charles, Elizabeth, Ester Louise, and Jamima. We are looking for information on all of these families, especially:
•William Allen (b. July 18, 1859 and married Lottie on Feb. 16, 1883). He was in Detroit, Mich. and had at least one child.
•Martha Allan (b. Oct. 17, 1869), married Walter Simpson on April 4, 1888, and had a daughter, Mary, who married Ralph Bernie.
•Sarah Allan (b. March 9, 1864, married James Mitchell on Dec. 27, 1886).
•Mary Ellen Allen (b. Feb. 16, 1896, married Archie McDougal on Oct. 15, 1890). Their daughter, Mary, married Ansley King and their son, Carmen, who was believed to be around High River, Alta., had three sons, Barry, John, and Sheldon, also believed to be in High River area.
Archie and Mary Ellen’s daughter, Della, married a Crawford.
