Riverside responds

Dear Mr. Editor:
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the letter you received from the McMahon family with regard to their mother and an incident that took place at Rainycrest Long-Term Care Facility.
Although we cannot comment on the details of the incident specifically, we do want to assure the public that Riverside has a “zero tolerance” policy on any type of patient abuse, verbal or otherwise.
We also want to assure the public that Riverside dealt with the incident as expeditiously as possible with the staff member involved.
We did, however, fall short in our advising the McMahon family of the incident in a timely manner and for that, we have extended our apologies. There is no excuse for this communication error.
We deeply regret the emotional pain that Mrs. McMahon and the McMahon family have had to endure and we are sincerely sorry.
We want to ensure the public is aware that patient safety is of the utmost importance to Riverside and its staff. As the McMahon family has indicated, our staff members at Rainycrest provide outstanding support to the residents entrusted to their care.
We do hope this extremely unfortunate incident does not reflect negatively on the staff members who remain dedicated to providing excellent patient care.
Signed,
Wayne Woods,
