Return council

Dear editor:
I feel I must respond to the comments made last week on B93 regarding the Huffman subdivision.
The cost was not $2 million as quoted.
As a concerned taxpayer, I wanted to investigate the true cost. The property was purchased for $150,000. The total cost of development, less the block on Williams Avenue which was up for replacement anyway, was $650,000—for a total cost of $800,000.
The approximate taxation for 16 lots will be 64,000. Total funds derived from the sale of the lots will be $723,000. Thus, in less than two years, the total capital cost will be recaptured.
From that day forward, the town will derive income from taxes, sewer and water, and hydro.
I also would comment that Sunny Cove Camp was sold to the town for $2. Great deal!
The camp continues to function as when the Kiwanis Club operated it, thus continuing to provide opportunities for youth programs.
In closing, now is not “the time for change.” The present mayor and council have done a very commendable job in spite of many extreme circumstances.
I urge the voters to return the entire council so they may continue their excellent work.
Signed,
M.C. Douglas
