Dear editor:
I found it very ironic that there were two news articles dealing with the Town of Fort Frances in last Wednesday’s Times.
One article was about the new “branding,” which is a great idea. The story went on to discuss the situation we are all aware of (the mill being closed) and the necessity for the town to do everything to help find a buyer, which is going to be difficult in an industry with over-production.
The second story was about the town buying computers or tablets so it can “eliminate paper.”
Nothing wrong with either plan—just kind of weird reading the two stories together.
To comment further on the “Boundless” branding and the plans for the old Rainy Lake Hotel property, there is one inclusion that I’m pleased to see being considered.
I commented way back in March, 2003, when the town had a proposal called “Re-inventing Fort Frances,” and again in January, 2013, when the town had a new hope to get travellers to stop here instead of just passing through.
I highlighted the parking problem for tourists towing trailers and boats, or driving long motorhomes. It appears this now will be addressed in the proposal for the market square.
I doubt, however, that you can properly route vehicle types like I reference to that property and get them going again on Scott Street.
I suggest you get an opinion from Coun. Kitowski. With his experience with trucks which are the same length as many of these tourists rigs, he easily could let you know if it’s even feasible at that location.
Respectfully,
Bob Conlon
