Reach out!

Dear Mike:
Christmas is an amazing time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.
People who know me probably knew me when I was an unbelieving Jew/New Age follower—and the fact that I was radically changed 15-and-a-half years ago into a bold follower of Christ is quite the miracle.
Even though this is a joyous time of year for many people, there also are people we each know that will be going through a difficult time. They may have lost a loved one, lost a job, or are going through other hardships.
When someone comes to your mind, please pick up the phone and call them, send them an e-mail, and, most important of all, pray for them.
Christmas can be a lonely time for people who do not have family nearby.
There are several places that are available to help (often 24/7 and most for free). One I know of that focuses on helping young people, but will help anyone, is www.dmlive.com or www.dawsonMcallisterlive.com
The important phone number is 1-800-394-HOPE (4673) and there is a number specific to anyone thinking of suicide (1-800-273-8255).
With this website, people can type in prayer requests and watch as many people type in prayers for you.
Other important phone numbers are 1-800-NEED HIM (1-800-633-3446) and Focus on the Family (1-800-661-9800).
You never know when you can be involved in a major way by helping others.
We are called to be Jesus’ hands and feet—our greatest commandments are to love god and love others.
Please remember to focus on the reason for the season: Jesus. Please don’t just “talk the talk” or “walk the walk.” Invite someone you know out for coffee or chat on the phone with them.
Let people know you really care about them.
I’ve heard it said that eight out of 10 people will go to church if someone invites them, but not enough people are inviting others. Reach out! Show someone you truly care about them.
Remember, it is Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays. I never knew this until a few years ago but if you write Xmas, you are crossing out Christ.
God Bless you All!
