Dear editor:
Christmas is an amazing time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.
People who know me probably knew me when I was an unbelieving Jew/New Age follower—and the fact that I was radically changed 16-and-a-half years ago into a bold follower of Christ is quite the miracle.
But even though this is a joyous time of year for many people, there also are people we each know that will be going through a difficult time. They may have lost a loved one, lost a job, or going through other hardships.
When someone comes to your mind, please pick up the phone and call them, send them an e-mail, and, most important, pray for them. Christmas can be a lonely time for people who do not have family nearby.
There are several places available to help—often 24/7 (most for free). Most of these also are available at any time of the year.
You never know when you can be involved in a major way by helping others. We are called to the Jesus’ hands and feet. Our greatest commandments are to love God and love others.
Please remember to focus on the reason for the season: Jesus! Please don’t just talk the talk but walk the walk.
There are times I have been “too busy,” and that is not good and it feels bad. And we can’t recover that time with those we love.
Invite someone you know out for coffee or chat on the phone with them. Let people know you really care about them.
I have heard it said that eight out of 10 people will go to church if someone invites them. But not enough people are inviting others.
Reach out! Show someone you truly care about them.
Remember, it is Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays. I never knew it until a few years ago but if you write Xmas, you are crossing out Christ.
God bless you all!
Signed,
