No excuse

Dear editor:
This is to the owner and/or passenger of the red pickup who attempted to shoot deer across from my house and on my family’s property in Miscampbell Township on Highway 611 North at 5 p.m. on Dec. 10.
A hunting licence is not a licence to trespass or to fire weapons on or across private property. Nor are you supposed to fire your gun from a vehicle or road.
Behind that field is private property which, at any time, could be in use by the landowner, neighbours, children, and pets—and yet you dare to fire a weapon there?
We do not come to your home and disturb the peace of your family. How would you like it if I came to your neighbourhood and started shooting at anything I chose whenever I chose?
Please show a little common sense and common decency, and don’t be the person who makes all hunters look bad. There is no excuse for your behaviour. Just because hunting season is almost over does not give you the right to terrorize private landowners.
Even if you had succeeded, the deer would have been confiscated because we would not have hesitated to report you.
I assure you that the next time, we will get your licence plate number and report you to the proper authorities.
