Dear sir:
Well, “no name” street has now got a name, Veteran Ave. My congratulations to the winners of the name-that-street contest.
Veteran, an excellent name for any other street or avenue, but this one.
Generally, access roads that are behind properties that front on a major street, such as this new street will be to Portage Ave., are called alleys or lanes. Had I entered the name-that-street contest, some of my suggestions would have been Abitibi Alley, Lunacy Lane, Council Drive, and Appeasement Ave.
I came up with these names as I was one of the few people who saw the plans for the new Customs facility which I, and the few other people in attendance, thought were atrocious.
However, as my suggested names were of the tongue-in-cheek variety, the chances of one of them being selected by council would be like the chances of getting blood from a stone, or the mammoth trucks off our soon-to-be beautified Scott Street.
It seems that only when the new Customs facility is built, and that after multitudes of people are forced to use it, that we will see the awful consequences of bad planning. Thank you.
