Dear sir:
In your Country Living section of the Dec. 22 edition of the Times (p. B9), your correspondent badly misinformed your readers regarding South African geography.
The article stated that Riet Carnahan “went to the Kruger National Park in Cape Town.” That is equivalent to saying someone on a tour of Canada went to Banff National Park in Toronto. Cape Town is at least 1,000 miles from Kruger National Park.
As well, the article identified the Drakensberg Mountains as Drakeen mountains.
I was pleased to see mention of the Drakensberg Boys Choir. But your writer also should have mentioned this is a world-class choir having won awards over the Vienna Boys Choir, and it is a treat to listen to their talents.
They sing in English, Afrikaans, Khosa, and Zulu. They have been in existence for about 20 years but have only been permitted to tour in their home country since 1994 because they are a mixed race choir–and have been since their inception.
I read your paper a bit late but am always interested in the news from “home.”
Signed,
Judy James
