Making a difference

Dear editor,
We would like to take this time to thank both the local chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society and the Fort Frances Community Chest for their financial support during my recent illness.
No one plans to have a serious long-term illness, never mind plan for the financial burden one may cause. It is very comforting when a volunteer organization steps forward and offers support during such a stressful and emotional time.
Not only am I very thankful for the support that was given to my husband and me over this past year, but I also want local residents to know that the money raised by both of these volunteer organizations stays in the district and offers assistance to those who are faced with unfortunate and often unanticipated medical circumstances.
The annual “Spirit of Christmas” fundraising event by the local Canadian Cancer Society goes this Sunday (Nov.) 28 at 6 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous. I encourage you to attend and support a very worthy cause.
Tireless volunteers have been working very hard for the past 10 years to bring you this outstanding event. I guarantee you will have a night of fun and good spirit—all while helping a worthy cause.
Thank you to all the residents in Rainy River District who donate so generously their time and their financial contributions to both of these charitable organizations. You truly do make a difference.
Melanie and
Bob Mathieson
