Good day, readers! I would like to comment on a couple of items from the past two weeks.
First, there was an article written by summer reporter Sarah Pruys headlined “Churches slowly blessing same-sex unions.” She wrote that Knox United Church had a lesbian couple to speak at their third workshop, “but at the last minute they felt it was too risky and distressing to them.”
Just a small correction on that. Actually, we did not feel it was too risky or distressing to us. It was much simpler in that we just wanted to get married and at that time did not feel it was our responsibility to convince a congregation to allow us to marry in their church.
We found a Knox United in Thunder Bay who married us and we have been very happily married for eight years now. Oh, and my dad walked me down the aisle!
Secondly, as to the letter written by the Abraham Gerber family (“Hates sin”), I would like to bring their attention to the article about Dexter Fichuk, who is a young man putting on an anti-bullying concert.
Dexter also has participated in the “Day of Pink”—the International Day against Bullying, Discrimination, Homophobia, and Transphobia in schools and communities.
