Lives at risk

Dear editor:
I cannot help but notice that many drivers have a total disregard for the red lights at Keating Avenue and King’s Highway, as well as the flashing crosswalk lights at McDonald’s.
I have been observing this practice for the past two years since I moved back to the community.
Within the past week, I, myself, have nearly been struck by individuals who either are in too much of a hurry, too busy on their phone, or looking for something in their car and not even watching the road—not to mention the dark SUV (or maybe a crossover vehicle) which passed a stopped vehicle at the flashing crosswalk to continue on, almost hitting me and my dog.
I think what bothers me most is the fact that these crossings are in a clearly-marked community safe zone, and used daily by students on their way to and from one of the schools in the immediate area.
Drivers are putting the lives of the community’s children at risk with this selfish behaviour, and violators need to be dealt with before there is a tragic accident.
