Letter to the Editor

Dear Mayor and Members of Council,

I am writing this letter to voice my disapproval of the proposed construction of a roundabout in Fort Frances. The town of Fort Frances has no remaining large industrial tax base, so therefore the financial burden of infrastructure upgrades and repairs falls on small business and residential taxpayers. With the increasing cost of living such as housing, transportation, food, etc., it is becoming increasingly difficult for families to financially tread water. With already excessive property taxes, the last thing needed is more tax burden to fund a roundabout. Even if some government funding is secured, the remainder falls on taxpayers’ shoulders. That intersection works perfectly fine as is, even during tourist season. We are probably already facing another summer of detour chaos to complete surface repairs on 3rd St. W., as the contractor seemingly only completes one block per year. Imagine how many summers of chaos it would take to construct a roundabout.

Let’s instead focus on repairing some of the horrendously rough and deteriorated streets we must navigate on a daily basis.

Residents must have a say in how our tax dollars are spent. That is why I am contacting you, Mayor and Council, to say that I do not support the proposed roundabout.

Wasteful spending affects everyone.

Sincerely,

Leo Pruys
