Let’s build our own

Dear sir:
I am confused about the bridge between Fort Frances and International Falls. It was obvious adjunct to the dam and connects two very good neighbours. Its original cost was small as it sat on the dam.
Some years back, it was enlarged at some expense. But this expenditure must have been paid for many times over with the toll on the traffic.
Now, with the excuse of easing traffic flow, it appears the public will have to pay a much larger toll–and Canadian money will not be accepted at the new booth slated to open on the U.S. side.
I would ask our council to talk to Rainy River and Baudette and find how they managed to build and pay for–in a few short years–the excellent bridge with little maintenance costs
If they were able to do this with their small populations, surely the 20,000 people who live around here could tell the corporations that charge such high tolls that we will build our own bridge as we should have done many years ago.
We could make lots or room at both ends for Customs and Immigration so even during the July holidays, there would be no hold-ups.
Thank you.
Yours truly,
Ron L. Helliar
