Keep bus service

Dear editor:
Please accept this open letter to Fort Frances council, Kenora-Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton, and Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Bill Mauro:
We would like to bring to your attention the impending cancellation of the Greyhound bus route between Fort Frances and Thunder Bay. We understand this cancellation is to take effect on May 4, 2008.
We, as community members, feel this bus service is vitally important to the residents of Fort Frances and surrounding area. This loss will be felt by many individuals, including those who do not drive a vehicle themselves, such as students, the elderly, the handicapped, and, of course, people who are ill and are seeking medical attention in Thunder Bay.
We feel this cancellation will mean another service lost for our small, northern town; not to mention the potential job losses by this cut.
This small community already deals with many limitations to specialized health care and limited shopping selections and with this cancellation, area residents will be forced to seek more expensive alternative ways to travel out of town.
We feel this is an urgent matter and we appeal to you for your assistance. Any help you could give this situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your prompt attention.
Yours truly,
Bobbi Pitkanen
(on behalf of
concerned citizens of
Rainy River District)
