Dear Mike:
It was cancer that put a hole in my heart.
When I lost my mother to cancer, I’m sure that’s when it happened. Before then, I don’t think I truly understood. You know, the sadness that comes from being “touched” by cancer—and the happiness that comes when people reach out and offer help.
Hundreds of you did just that in the month of March. When Beta Sigma Phi members came to your business and took pre-orders for this year’s “Daffodil Drive,” hundreds of people reached out to help us help the Canadian Cancer Society.
Hope bloomed with each daffodil sale—because of you.
We were able to hand over a cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society this past week for $7,300! We’re proud to thank every one of you for making this annual event a success.
It’s not only the Beta Sigma Phi volunteers and you, the buyers. We couldn’t hold this event without more help. Like Bill Plumridge and The Beer Store for storage and delivery, Janice Boneham and the Knox United Church for storage and use of the facility, the businesses who pre-purchase larger orders, and the outlets that sell flowers for us.
And, Linda Plumridge and the Fort Frances Times for volunteering time and efforts.
I’d also like to especially thank the two winners of our local draws who helped sell pre-orders. Dave Zatulsky at First Nations Advisory Services won a movie basket while Mabel Petsnick at Flinder’s Place won a gardener’s basket.
Sure, the hole in my heart is still there, but it gets smaller when that space gets filled with love. Regardless of why you buy daffodils every year, we appreciate it.
Thank you for another great year!
Signed,
Arlene Georgeson
