Dear Santa,
We’re not sure if “big kids” should be writing to you but we still believe in your spirit of giving, and there are a few things that we not only want but really need. We hope you might be able to help us.
You see, Santa, we were robbed this year, not by an outside burglar but by members of our faith community. Because we challenged an outside negative force (who seemed to be one of us), some members of our faith community were swayed by him and now perceive us as the antagonists.
They decided to take away all our faith family privileges. They say we can still “eat meals” with them but that we must remain silent. That doesn’t make for a very true celebration.
So, Santa, we are badly in need of some things:
•We need understanding–to be able to accept how uninvolving a community can be. We know that no one is perfect, least of all any community, but we need a faith community that will accept our imperfectness and recognize its own.
•We need a spirit of forgiveness. Santa, it’s not too hard to forgive someone who can say, “I’m sorry; perhaps I was wrong,” but it’s very hard to forgive those who show no concern or desire for reconciliation.
•We need reassurance–to be convinced that despite the pain and persecution, we are still called to be authentic and take a stand for justice.
•We really need a greater trust in God. We need to truly believe that in spite of all the adverse, sinful inclinations of us, God’s people, a divine plan is somehow being brought to its fullness.
•And Santa, we really need prayers for the sick members of our blood families. We ask you to join us in our prayers for healing for them.
Thank you, Santa, for listening to us. Actually, that’s all we’ve really ever wanted or needed–someone to listen to us.
May God bless!
Signed,
Gerry and Jackie Guimond
