Harold Ernest Austin, 82, of Emo, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998 at the Emo Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1915 in Winnipeg, Man. to the late Roy and Alice Austin. As a child, Harold moved with his family to Lash Township. There the family farmed for many years, with Harold later operating the family farm, and working as a bookkeeper.
In 1948, Harold was united in marriage to the former Emily Thompson, who passed away in April, 1974. He as united in marriage to Grace Plummer on Oct. 25, 1975.
Harold was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Manitou #631, Emo. He also was very active in the building of the new St. George’s Anglican Church, of which he was a life-long member, and attended faithfully.
Harold enjoyed his farm animals, gardening, flowers, and the outdoors. He also loved music, and supported the Rainy River District Music Festival.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Lois Austin, in 1969.
Harold is survived by his wife, Grace Austin of Emo, Ont.; one daughter, Brenda and husband, Richard Collins, and their three children of Seventy Mile House, B.C.
He also is survived by two sisters, Mary Austin of Kenora, Ont., and Sybil Mowe of Fort Frances, Ont.; and by two nephews, William Mowe and wife, Sharon, of Kenora, Ont., and Jim Mowe and wife, Cindy, and their children of Stratton, Ont.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998 at 2 p.m. at St. George’s Anglican Church in Emo. Eileen Bragg officiated, with interment in Emo Cemetery.
Friends visited Friday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont.
Pallbearers were Wayne Clement, Wallace Clement, William Mowe, Jim Mowe, Paul Blais, and Roy Young.
