Grain of salt

Dear editor:
I was interested to read the letter to the editor from Mr. Loren Hepworth in the May 29 edition of the Times, where he reassured everyone of how safe our food supply is.
I won’t comment on the content of this “letter” further.
I will only point out that when I ran CropLife through Google, I found out it is a sister organization to CropLife America and CropLife International—all of which are the public relations wing of such organizations as BASF, DuPont, and Bayer.
Also near the bottom of the long list of organizations he is speaking for, in a rather unobtrusive font, is a company called Monsanto.
So he is speaking on behalf of agri-businesses which are actively attempting to corner the market on the food industry by genetically-modifying seed crops so they will not grow unless their particular brand of insecticide and fertilizer is used.
I’d, therefore, suggest we should take the contents of such “letters to the editor” with a healthy grain of salt.
These multinationals are so cheap, they won’t even take out an ad in our paper to defend themselves; they use the free services of letters to the editor and that, too, should tell us something about their integrity.
