Dear sir:
My long-awaited return from my exchange in Australia has finally arrived, and I find myself both extremely excited and extremely sad. I always knew this would all end eventually, but never did I expect it to be so hard.
As I say my tearful good-byes to friends, teachers, and all the people that have been as close as my own family, I find I am sure that I will return one day to this dream place.
Throughout this past year, I also have come to the realization that it is not the place that makes the dream, but the people. I have met so many extraordinary people who have helped me grow and truly find myself, yet I still depend on the many loved friends and family back home to reassure and help me fully realize my dreams.
This experience has helped me to believe and trust in myself, and know that I am capable of the tasks I set my mind to. The strength and determination to follow my own path certainly has faltered more than once in the past year.
There are so many cultural differences in society and school, and I also have struggled with my own personal obstacles, but I’ve discovered I can truly fall, pick myself up, and go on with life.
I feel proud of these days I know I have worked hard for, with hope to inspire others by it. I thank all those who have supported me, helped me, and kept in contact with me over my journey. Whether you have done one or all, I am very grateful.
I cannot express how much this experience has meant to me, or how very much the lives of those around me here have forever touched my heart. I have both new friends here and old friends at home, but it is the good friends that are my best friends—and I know all have made a difference in my life.
With my journey at its end, I know I will return home and never forget my adventures here. I hope to see you all very soon!
Signed,
Megan Cuthbertson
