Our guests woke up on beautiful Rainy Lake, to a lovely sunrise and mirror-like picture perfect lake.
But their first comment of the day to us was: “What in God’s name is that stench?”
It was the pollution from the mill—a regularly-occurring shocking event that everyone in this community seems to pretend doesn’t happen.
That is the one reason Fort Frances never could be considered the “ultimate” fishing town.
I was too embarrassed to mention to our guests that Fort Frances was in the running for this acclaim!
