Dreams crushed

Peter and Linda York

Dear editor:
There has been a group working hard for the last while trying to get an assisted living project off the ground.
Unfortunately, their dreams were crushed with the town’s decision to see the lots they needed to a contractor from Thunder Bay.
I will admit this project would have benefitted us personally but more important, it would have benefitted a lot of our aging population.
The property on Nelson Street is close to shopping, the clinic, and the hospital, which is beneficial for the elderly.
This was an ideal location for this project.
I’m sure the town council will respond to this letter with a lot of reasoning, such as a bird in the hand, but the fact is they put money ahead of the elderly.
Townhouses and apartments can be built anywhere so I wonder why the town didn’t push the many empty lots on the Huffman site from their last rest estate venture and leave the lots on Nelson for the much-needed assisted living these people have been working so hard to get.
