It has come to my attention to write this letter on behalf of myself and fellow members of the Memorial Sports Centre.
This matter has come under scrutiny time and time again as I went through this fiasco a few years ago, as well.
Apparently, the 9 a.m. aqua fitness class only allows the first 25 members into the pool due to safety reasons. This I understand.
This past Wednesday, I was the 28th person. Two previous members—a physiotherapist and her client—also were refused.
Previously, this issue was to be solved with a number being issued. After 25 people, another front desk certified lifeguard was to be on deck for safety purposes.
I was told long ago the only way one wouldn’t be available is if she was in a meeting.
So I was confused and angry as to why three of us were turned away.
I proceeded into the pool, and reluctantly she came out to oversee the class in progress.
The 25 tickets given out are used for a count. When they are gone, it should be an indication to alert staff that another lifeguard is needed!
I don’t appreciate being made out to be the bad guy, especially given the amount of fees we pay to use the facility and cover these classes.
After 25-plus years, I do make aquafit a priority to keep and stay healthy, as most of us do who attend.
Mr. Jason Kabel (Community Services manager), I would hope that you look into this matter promptly, and that it is not overlooked but resolved soon!
