Dear sir:
In the last two to three weeks, I’ve been reading comments regarding Wal-Mart in our town.
I am glad that Wal-Mart is coming. It will be nice to have real competition within our area. I’ve been to other Wal-Marts and I think they are great! They have a tremendous selection of products that differs from some of the businesses in town.
Selection is important to me as a consumer. Sometimes I shop in International Falls, Virginia, and Duluth to find a better selection even through the exchange is awful. A trip to Winnipeg or Thunder Bay for a weekend can be costly and not always convenient.
Sometimes, it’s worth paying the exchange and duty than going to Dryden, Winnipeg, or Thunder Bay. I still find some items cheaper in the U.S. than in town, again that’s including exchange and duty!
All businesses will not suffer, in my humble opinion. For example, with clothing, there are still those who will want name brand items that Wal-Mart does not offer that other businesses carry.
Restaurants, I’m sure, will see an increase in profit. There will be job opportunities for those who want it.
Motels may see an increase in reservations. Gas stations most likely will see an increase with customers coming into and going out of town.
Thank you,
Brenda Whitehead
